“LINES IN THE LAND (LÍNEAS EN LA TIERRA) "
(IN PROGRESS)
One line.
One truth.
No line.
One people.
One line.
One lie.
One lie.
Endlessly repeated.
One line.
Four hundred miles.
One line.
Countless lost.
Two lines.
One intersection.
“LINES IN THE LAND”
is a photo document of migrant deaths along the Arizona/Mexico border.
In four decades, there exist approximately 4,500 victims.
4,500 undocumented migrants whose deaths in the Arizona desert have been documented by county medical examiners. The bodies of thousands more remain unrecovered, their deaths undocumented.
In one decade, there exist approximately 2,000 wooden crosses.
2,000 wooden crosses built & staked at the site of migrant deaths by Alvaro as documented by the aforementioned county medical examiners.
One vertical line.
One life.
One horizontal line.
One death.
One intersection.
One spirit.
One line.
One graveyard.
One lie.
Endlessly repeated.
The Roman Empire used the cross to kill.
The American Empire uses the desert.
The medical examiner’s records, Alvaro’s crosses, & these photos serve as testaments to these humans whose lives & deaths remain otherwise unseen.
