“KILLING TIME" (IN PROGRESS)
You said you loved me.
Nine years later, your words stay with me.
I walked hundreds of miles back to you, without you,
lost in knowing that the very first woman I had ever really loved really loved me.
I told you I loved you.
You told me the same.
I walked nine weeks to see you again.
I waited nine weeks to see you again,
To be back with the woman I loved,
To be back with a woman who did not love me.
You told me so.
You did not feel the same.
Nine weeks lost.
Nine years passed.
I lost myself as I lost you.
Nine years later, I am here, again, walking hundreds of miles without you.
Nine years later, you stay with me.
Nine years later, I struggle to walk away.
Nine years later I want my nine weeks back.
Nine years later I want my nine years back.
I want myself back.
“KILLING TIME”
is a photo document of the Camino De Santiago, a centuries-old pilgrimage through Spain.
It is simultaneously a document of personal loss & recovery.
For the next decade (at least), for however long I am physically able, I will return to Spain again & again, to walk & to photograph
as many of the thousands of miles & more than two hundred routes that comprise this historic & intimate journey.
It took me nearly fifty years to arrive here.
From here, I will walk my way back to me.
